WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Contemporary Techniques in Encaustic.
Participating artists will learn solvent-free approaches to working
and painting safely with encaustic. It is compatible with drawing, oil painting and sculpture and these mediums will be addressed in combination with wax. Learning will be primarily hands-on with ample demonstrations covering traditional and contemporary methods. No prior experience in encaustic is necessary.
Encaustic Image Transfer & Monoprinting to Wax
This class requires that you have completed one other workshop or have been working w/the medium fairly consistently. The focus is on printing/monoprinting and layering imagery onto/into the wax. A copy machine will be available to assist with your projects. Encaustic waxes and equipment are included..
Image Layering, Gold Leaf & Drawing in Wax
emphasizes the translucent and opaque nature of wax and its ability to show depth. Techniques covered will include image transfer, combining oil and wax, glazing, scraping and scribing. This class is also excellent for those who love drawing. In addition it will include a section on gold leaf. The basic core of encaustic technique and safety information will be covered, but certain techniques will be emphasized and demonstrated in more detail. No prior experience with encaustic is necessary.
Collage, Assemblage, 3D & Experimental
This class requires a 2 – 3 day span of time. It focuses on the adhesive and structural nature of wax. Encaustic can be used to integrate different materials, both two and three dimensional. Because of its structural properties, the wax itself can be carved, textured, built up in relief and modeled. The beginning of the class will cover the basic core of encaustic information during which time those with prior encaustic experience can choose to work independently.
Independent Studio
For those who already have experience with encaustic and wish to work independently. The fee for this is $40/hr with most materials included. A minimum of 2 hours is required. Two people: $30/hr each.
